Is ronaldo white ? Cristiano Ronaldo is without an ounce of doubt, one of the best soccer players in the world. Even after so many years, fans are, however, still curious about the player’s ethnicity and where he is from as he likes to keep his personal life as private as possible.
Cristiano Ronaldo was born in the Sau Pedro parish of Funchal, which is the capital of the Portuguese island Madeira. Ronaldo grew up in a Catholic household with his parents, Maria Dolores Aveiro and José Dinis Aveiro.
The former Real Madrid player is reportedly of mixed ethnicity. He’s Caucasian European with a mix of North African descent. Furthermore, it is believed that his mother has an African ancestry. As per reports, his grandmother had emigrated to Madeira from Cape Verde, and his grandfather already belonged to the islands of Cape Verde.
The player has often been considered as a mixed race because of the above-mentioned reasons. However, there has been no confirmation about his race by the player or his family.
Ronaldo grew up in Santo Antonio, Portugal with his siblings, Hugo, Elma, and Liliana Katia. Moreover, the player started playing soccer for Andorinha, where his father worked as a kitman in 1992. He has since then become one of the most beloved and most followed soccer players in the world.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s childhood house
Cristiano Ronaldo grew up on the islands of Madeira, Portugal. However, the address of the player’s childhood home is unknown to the public.
As per reports, Ronaldo shared his room with his three older siblings growing up, as his family had to tackle some difficulties with finances. That might be one of the reasons why the siblings still share such a strong and close bond.
Ronaldo’s sister Katia once shared a small glimpse of their childhood house in Madeira. The sister of the player shared that they grew up in an old house that was only supported by bricks. She further shared that visiting the old house made her nostalgic.
As a young boy, Cristiano Ronaldo was named “crybaby” by his peers as he frequently broke out into tears when things did not go his way. Furthermore, the player was even expelled from his school because he threw a chair at his teacher he disrespected him first.
He eventually left his schooling at the age of 14 and started focusing on his passion for soccer. Ronaldo started his professional soccer career for Portuguese club Sporting before getting noticed by then Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
He has since been one of the most exciting players in the world of soccer. The once-poor boy from Madeira has now become the highest-paid athlete in the world after signing a contract with the Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr. He currently resides in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with his partner, Georgina Rodriguez, and their children.
Cristiano Ronaldo in racism storm over ‘black and white chocolate’ Instagram post
Cristiano Ronaldo is at the centre of an online race row after posting an image of himself and a fellow Portuguese footballer on Instagram.
The Real Madrid star showed off his bronzed frame next to Jose Semedo with the bizarre caption: “Perfect Mach Black And White chocolate”
The post was met with a strong response from critics who said the post was “racist”.
“Isn’t it supposed to be dark chocolate, not black?” one fan pointed out.
Another user wrote: “Cristiano you might get some hate for this caption for some reason, people are sensitive. So just be aware.”
The controversial caption was posted two days after the father-of-three uploaded a picture of his newborn twins on Instagram captioned: “So happy to be able to hold the two new loves of my life”.
The twins are rumoured to have been named Eva and Mateo, but this has not been confirmed.
Reports in Portugal announced in June that he was due to have children via a surrogate mother but this was not confirmed by Ronaldo until he was allowed to travel home after the Confederations Cup following a semi-final exit to Chile.
The new father was allowed to leave the Russia tournament early to by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) who said they released the athlete so “he can finally get to know his children.”
Does former futebol superstar Ronaldo still see himself as a white man?
Today’s story takes me down memory lane for a few reasons. First because I still remember when Ronaldo, the known as the Phenomenon, made a statement to the press about the racism that black players were experiencing in European futebol stadiums. I remembering thinking that was gonna speak on the issue from the position of a black man who knew exactly what it was like.
But then he made me do a double take when he defined himself as “branco”, or a white man. I had been following racial issues by then, 2005, for about five years, so I knew that there were a lot of people in Brazil whose physical features signaled African ancestry but didn’t see themselves as such, but even so, Ronaldo blew me away with that one.
Some years later, Neymar, who would ascend and take a place among Brazil’s many futebol elites a few years later, also turned heads when he said he wasn’t black about five years later. I mean, it’s Brazil, and this is pretty widespread.
The other thing I remember about Ronaldo was when I was in the city of Ilhéus, in the state of Bahia, right when the 2006 World Cup was starting. Brazil had won its record fifth championship in 2002 with Ronaldo playing a starring role and Brazilians were looking forward to another title.
At that time, many fans and the press were questioning Ronaldo’s weight and physique as he appeared a bit huskier than usual and not well-prepared to give his best in Germany, which is where the Cup was held that year.
Walking around in the city’s downtown I came across this painting on a building which featured images of several players on Brazil’s seleção (national team).
The paintings were those sort of exaggerated caricatures where the artist exaggerates the features of the players. Of course, the artist took liberty to expand on Ronaldinho Gaúcho’s teeth, but then there was Ronaldo, unlike other players shown in action or standing, shown laying on his side rubbing a protruding belly under his jersey.
