Who Sponsors Chelsea FC ? Why does Chelsea’s new home shirt shirt have no sponsor?

Who sponsors chelsea fc ? Chelsea’s sponsorship agreement with data company Infinite Athlete (IA) was finally approved by the Premier League earlier this week, and ahead of our games this weekend, the club have now officially announced the partnership as well. (We’re calling it an “extended partnership” since we already had a partnership going with Tempus Ex, IA’s previous incarnation, for our app-based streaming services.)

The branded shirts will make their debuts during the women’s game against Spurs on Sunday at Stamford Bridge as well as during the men’s game against Fulham on Monday at Craven Cottage. IA branding will also appear on the sleeves on our training shirts, which are sponsored by trivago.

Chelsea’s announcement does not say anything about the financials of the deal, but it does seem to suggest that it is indeed for just this season. According to reports, it’s a £40m deal, same annually as our previous deal with Three UK. Chelsea are said to be actively searching for a long-term sponsorship agreement for next season as beyond.

Top ten current sponsor partners of Chelsea FC

The biggest single sponsorship investment in Chelsea for the 2022/23 season comes from NIKE, which is an agreement valued at $73.50m per year. However, sponsorship values vary greatly across the different levels of partnership opportunities offered by a rights-holder, all of which are detailed in the report, in addition to the revenues of the participating teams.

In total, Chelsea have sponsorship agreements with 16 brands in the 2022/23 season, with their top five partners accounting for 89% of the club’s total income from sponsorship.

According to GlobalData’s report, the highest-spending sponsor brands include NIKE, 3, WhaleFin, Trivago and Unilever, among others. The table below shows the top ten sponsors of Chelsea in the 2022/23 season.

Clothing & accessories & financial services industries have struck the most deals

The clothing & accessories industry is the most heavily represented, totaling two agreements with Chelsea in 2022/23. This is followed by financial services, retail, technology and travel & tourism.

For a brand, understanding which competitors and other sectors are partnering with which sports teams, and identifying future opportunities, and crucially, at what cost, is key information for commercial strategy planning. Meanwhile, for a rights-holding team, knowing what sponsorship revenues competitor teams and competitor sports are generating from each brand / sector is critical for increasing and maximizing commercial revenues, including identifying portfolio gaps and opportunities.

Chelsea sign shirt sponsorship deal with Infinite Athlete

Sept 30 (Reuters) – Chelsea have signed a shirt sponsorship deal with sports technology company Infinite Athlete reportedly worth around 40 million pounds ($49 million), having started the season without one following the expiry of a deal with telecoms group Three.

The logo of Infinite Athlete – which offers an integrated platform covering everything from broadcast viewing to athlete performance – will appear on the front of the Chelsea men’s and women’s teams’ playing kits and training kit sleeve, the club said.

Neither parties disclosed the financial details of the deal, but British media reported it is worth in the region of 40 million pounds. The agreement runs to the end of the current season.

“We have a like-minded partner in Infinite Athlete,” Chelsea Chief Executive Chris Jurasek said in a statement. “The speed at which our relationship has grown, alongside the evolution of Infinite Athlete’s business, made this an obvious extension to our partnership.”

Chelsea set to receive Premier League approval over shirt sponsors

Chelsea are set to receive approval from the Premier League for Infinite Athlete to become their new shirt sponsor. The Stamford Bridge club have been waiting for the deal, which is understood to be worth around £40m a year, to be given the green light.

Chelsea, who have also bought land opposite the entrance to their training ground in Cobham, have started the season without a sponsor on the front of their shirt. They have been looking to sign up a new brand since their deal with the mobile phone company Three ended this year. The search has been led by the club’s new chief executive, Chris Jurasek. A potential deal with Stake.com, an online casino, fell through after a fan backlash and another with Paramount Plus was blocked by the league.

Infinite Athlete emerged as the likeliest new sponsor in August. The company was established this year after a merger involving Tempus Ex Machina, which in April signed a seven-year partnership with Chelsea.

The deal will come as a major relief to Chelsea’s owners, Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, who have endured difficulties on and off the pitch since their takeover of the club last year. It could be too late for the Infinite Athlete logo to make its debut for tonight’s Carabao Cup tie against Brighton but it could be unveiled for the league game at Fulham next Monday. It will also be worn by the women’s team.

Also on the agenda for Chelsea is the potential redevelopment of Stamford Bridge but that could run into complications after a military veteran lodged an interim court injunction against a proposal to sell a crucial piece of land next to the ground.

Chelsea secured an agreement in principle to buy a 1.2 acre site belonging to Stoll, a provider of supported housing for veterans, in July. The deal has undergone a consultation period, with Stoll’s board of trustees expected to make a final decision on the proposed sale next month, and there has been a backlash from residents who do not want to move home. There has also been public opposition from the Fulham Medical Centre but the injunction has not stopped Stoll from continuing with the process.

Buying the Sir Oswald Stoll Mansions site, which is next to Stamford Bridge, could reduce Chelsea’s chances of having to move ground. Building a bigger, state of the art ground has been a major objective for Boehly and Clearlake. However it has been stressed that buying the Stoll site would not automatically mean that Chelsea stay at Stamford Bridge. They have looked into moving to Earls Court.

However the Earl’s Court Development Company recently launched a draft masterplan for a mixed use scheme in the area and has said it does not include the construction of a new football stadium.

Why does Chelsea’s new shirt have no sponsor?

Mail Sport reported that the club had failed to attract an appropriate commercial partner ahead of the launch of their new home shirt.

In doing so, they became the first Big Six Club to have no sponsor on the front of their shirt upon launch.

The club have got themselves in this situation after several deals fell through, including a contract with Paramount+.

A possible deal with Paramount+ was vetoed by the Premier League on the basis that it might upset PL rights holders.

Chelsea was also in line to sign a deal with gambling company Stake, but this provoked a furious reaction from fans, as the Mail on Sunday reported last month.

Stake’s British website is powered by Isle of Man firm TGP, who have been controlled in the past by a Chinese billionaire, Alvin Chau, who has links to criminal Triad gangs.

He was jailed earlier this year for 18 years after being found guilty of more than 100 charges relating to organised crime and illegal gambling, and TGP’s command structure remains opaque.

The Premier League has also banned betting companies from being front-of-shirt sponsors on kits from the 2025-26 season.

Chelsea’s main shirt sponsor up to last season was telecoms firm Three, who paid £40m a year for their front-of-shirt exposure.

Industry insiders told the Mail on Sunday that even if Chelsea manage to find a replacement, they should expect a much reduced fee per year, perhaps £25m a year or less.
